Friday, November 7th & Saturday, November 8th, 2003
Building 180 Room 134/138 (ASTEC)
This two-day symposium will bring together film and videomakers, educators, and students from Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland to explore the art of the moving image in a time of transition. Digital equipment and software are merging with the established techniques of filmmaking to create a medium both more accessible and affordable. With the internet as a potential broadcast and promotional medium, digital video is quickly becoming a force for social change.
Invited speakers and artists will discuss filmmaking techniques, new and old tools of the trade, and the art of the documentary. Screenings and presentations will demonstrate how the moving image is being used to document, promote, and provoke. If you're a film- or videomaker--or would like to find out more about the emerging art of digital video--you'll find this symposium stimulating and informative. You'll have a chance to meet the people working in the field, see what they've been making, and find out where to learn more. Lectures, demonstrations, screenings, discussions, and workshops will provide a variety of ways to participate in this unique event. Details of presentations and events can be found by selecting a menu option.
