Computer Gaming and Protocols of Improvisation
On problems making The Sims: "We had to develop a robust enough intelligence to deal with the basically infinite amount of situations the Sims could be put into. But at some point, we got the intelligence working too well, to where they played the game better than the players ever could. So we had to dumb them down the right way. And we did that by taking their personality traits and exaggerating them, so that they were pathologically inefficient in the direction of the personality. They could either be totally obsessive clean freaks or way too sloppy."
